Why are we so consumed with our weight and it’s not good for our well-being…

I’m hosting a 12-week health and wellness challenge that focuses on mindset shifts, rather than the number on the scale. During one of our calls, we talked about body image and how usually the person most obsessed with weight is yourself. For example, no one is looking at you and is wondering what size clothes you’re wearing these days. WE are only doing that to ourselves. And when someone does lose a lot of weight, our first response is to tell them how great they look NOW. But maybe, if we shift our language a bit, and focus on what might be going on internally, we can stop making weight the ultimate factor to whether or not a person is looking great or not.

Maybe try telling someone they are looking vibrant and happy. Maybe ask them what has changed? Maybe ask them if there is something that is going on in their lives, that you can sense that things might be “off” for them and you’re there to listen IF they want to share. The fact is, a lot of people’s weight fluctuates over the years. It could be due to having a baby, restrictive dieting, illness, stress, happiness, new changes, depression, grief, etc. Instead… lets focus on complimenting people as much as possible and spark up conversation about what is happening in their lives. Thank you to one of my challengers, R.G., who brought up this extremely valid and important point. Give it a try!
